De iconische "Frogeye" Austin Healey: een auto van slechts 660 KG. Om de kosten laag te houden is de slogan "Less is More" meer dan toepassing. Juist deze simpelheid maakt de auto ontzettend leuk om mee te rijden. Dit exemplaar betreft een MkI geleverd in 1959 en is daarmee één van de vroegst geleverde exemplaren. In 1993 is de auto geïmporteerd naar Nederland en al sinds 2005 is hij in bezit van de huidige liefhebber. Uitgevoerd in een prachtige klassiek-Engelse kleur 'Prime Rose Yellow' en in het verleden gerestaureerd, waardoor deze zowel optisch als technisch in goede staat verkeert. Hij is voorzien van leuke en handige accessoires zoals Moto-Lita houten stuurwiel, brandblusser, tonneaucover, chromen kofferrekje, steenvangers voor de koplampen, K & N luchtfilters, hoofdstroomschakelaar, verchroomd kleppendeksel en een tripmaster. Hierdoor leent de auto zich ook uitstekend voor (rally)ritten. De linnen kap is in nette staat en de stalen wielen zijn voorzien van originele verchroomde wieldoppen en goede banden. Het interieur is uitgevoerd in zwart kunstleer met verstelbare stoelen. Ook dit interieur is in nette staat. De 0.9-liter 4-cilinder motor is gekoppeld aan een handgeschakelde 4-versnellingsbak en maakt het een feest om mee te rijden: gevoelsmatig snel, wendbaar en puur. De huidige eigenaar heeft de auto dan ook goed gebruikt in diverse tour- en rallyritten, te zien aan de vele deelnamestickers. 


Algemene informatie over de Austin Healey Sprite
De Austin Healey Sprite werd gebouwd van 1958 tot 1971. De productie van de MkI vond plaats van 1958 tot 1961. De focus was om een sportieve maar ook betaalbare auto te ontwikkelen, en de auto werd daarom simpel uitgevoerd. Zo is de gehele carrosserie aan de voorzijde uit één stuk gebouwd en kon deze naar achter geopend worden om zo de toegang te verkrijgen tot de motor. De motor betreft een 43 pk leverende 948 cc en is in feite een opgevoerde motor uit de Austin 'A'-serie. De auto heeft geen deurportieren aan de buitenzijde, sloten, kofferbak of zijruiten. Dankzij het kenmerkende uiterlijk met de bol uitspringende koplampen kreeg de auto al snel de bijnaam "Frogeye", oftewel kikkerogen. Door de goede rijeigenschappen was de auto ook succesvol in de rallywereld.

Uiteraard heeft deze Sprite lichte gebruikerssporen opgelopen, zie foto's.
