Great refined ancestor figure from the Babembe people of DR Congo. Good aged patina with beautifull scarifications on the face.
The function of Bembe art is said to be primarily concerned with contacting ancestors and seeking their assistance, which accords in general terms with other accounts testifying to use of figures to endow hunters and warriors with good fortune before combat or hunting expeditions.
Good condition with traces of wear and tear and a beautiful patina.
Provenance: Manfred Schäfer collection, ex- gallery owner from Ulm, Germany.
Including professional custom made stand.
