“Gloom” returns to VANTA’s original territory - ink spreading and settling according to its own logic on canvas. No elaborate preparation, no removal, just the direct relationship between liquid medium and surface. The darker areas pool where gravity and surface tension dictate, creating formations that couldn’t be precisely replicated even by the same hand on the same day.
Represented by S-Gallery and listed on Catawiki, this piece captures something the more labored works can’t - the element of chance. VANTA guides the ink but doesn’t control it completely, resulting in organic patterns that feel discovered rather than designed. The smaller format intensifies this intimacy, pulling viewers in to examine how the ink has branched and spread.
The title fits the mood perfectly - this isn’t dramatic darkness but a quieter, more pervasive shadow. The ink’s natural behavior creates depth without effort, proving that sometimes the simplest approach yields the most complex results.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Occasionally, two different bidders may show up in the bidding history with the same bid amount. This occurs when one user's bid is exactly the same as an automatic (maximum) bid placed by another user earlier. Since the auto-bid was placed first, this takes preference. The bidding history will show both bids, with the auto-bid ranked as the higher of the two.
