Seto Island Sea" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Yoichi Midorikawa. Yoichi Midorikawa worked as a dentist in his hometown of Okayama while continuing to take photographs, and remained an amateur photographer throughout his life. He continued to photograph the landscape of the Seto Inland Sea throughout his life, and this book, published in 1962, was featured in “The History of Japanese Photography Collections 1956-1986” by photography historian Ryuichi Kaneko, and is regarded as a masterpiece that will be handed down from generation to generation. The chapters “Faces of the Sea,” “Lighthouses,” “Island Customs,” “Islands and Their Surroundings,” “Scars of the Seto Inland Sea,” and “The Sea at Night” are each illustrated with a beautiful mix of black and white and color images taken over a period of more than 30 years. This is a collection of works by a landscape photographer who has been described as a “magician of color” and whose charms can be fully appreciated. Detailed descriptions of each work by the photographer himself are included at the end of the book. This book is published by Bijutsu Publishing, which has published many masterpieces of photography, including “Chicago, Chicago” by Yasuhiro Ishimoto. (Included in The Japanese Photobook 1912-1990)
