Histoire de la Ville D’Anvers – Eugène Gens

Anvers: J.-B. Van Mol - Van Loy, 1861. 662 pages. 24cm x 15.5cm. Brown quarter leather with brown blindstamped pebbled cloth boards, gilt decorated and lettered spine with 4 raised bands, marbled edges and marbled endpapers. Profusely illustrated history of Antwerp with black and white in-text engravings throughout, full page black and white and chromolithographed color plates, and a folding plate depicting a panorama of the city. Includes a letter in French by and unidentified author (see photos). 
Rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine and tanning and some fraying to the spine. The marbled endpapers are damaged at the front. Pencil markings on the half title. The binding is a bit soft, and the first pages are partly loose. Page 1 has a large tear at the top right edge (see photo). Occasional tears to the tissue guards. Some spotting, browning and occasional water staining at the edges throughout. The text is clear, and the illustrations are vibrant. Overall, a nice copy in good- condition.
