Beautiful work in ink and watercolour on paper by the Belgian artist Alice Frey (1895 - 1981). 

Alice Frey made a name for herself with paintings of figures in a naive, poetic and enchanting visual language. She was born in Antwerp in 1895 and settled in Ostend in 1914. There she became friends with the expressionist James Ensor, who encouraged her to paint and strongly influenced her.

Her style then evolved from expressionist to symbolist impressionism, with fashionable women, clowns, ballerinas, fairy-tale figures, angels and devils complemented by flowers, masks and fans as the central motif. 

This beautiful work is in a very nice and expensive frame behind glass so the colours remain sparkling. Signed bottom left with Alice Frey. The size including frame is 39 x 22 cm.
