Denti di Mosasauro dal Marocco con radice e parte di osso mandibolare, osso parzialmente restaurato, si possono comunque notare le naturali porosità ossee. Ritrovamento zona sahara nord occidentale. Questo animale del cretaceo è stato uno dei più grandi predatori marini.
Mosasaurus fu uno degli ultimi mosasauridi, oltre a essere uno tra i più grandi. Come la maggior parte dei mosasauridi, gli arti si erano evoluti in corte ma efficienti pinne, e le pinne anteriori erano più grandi delle pinne posteriori. La più grande specie conosciuta, M. hoffmannii, poteva raggiungere una lunghezza pari a 17-18 metri (56 piedi)[1], leggermente più lungo rispetto ai suoi parenti più stretti Tylosaurus e Hainosaurus. Inoltre, Mosasaurus era anche il più robusto tra i mosasauridi, raggiungendo un ragguardevole peso di 25-30 tonnellate negli esemplari maggiormente sviluppati,[2] soprattutto il cranio dotato di una mandibola collegata molto strettamente al cranio. Il corpo era lungo, grosso e a forma di botte. Gli occhi erano relativamente grandi, ma garantivano una scarsa visione binoculare, e i bulbi olfattivi erano poco sviluppati, pertanto gli esperti ritengono che Mosasaurus vivesse vicino alla superficie
