Charles and Ray Eames – 4 Seater Tandem Seating - Sling Seating

Charles and Ray Eames designed the Tandem Seating at the request of their friend, architect Eero Saarinen. He was looking for comfortable and durable seating for the waiting areas of the Dulles Airport terminal in Washington, D.C., which he had just designed.

Shortly after, C.F. Murphy Associates, the architectural firm responsible for two new terminals at O’Hare Airport in Chicago, also showed interest. They were in search of durable public seating that was easy to maintain and repair.

The result was the iconic Tandem Seating: a design that remains a standard in airport terminals worldwide to this day.
