Dreadnought
Dit is veruit de meest populaire vorm akoestische gitaar bij gitaristen. 
In elke muziekstijl kom je ze tegen en op het podium is het een veel gebruikt instrument bij slaggitaristen waartbij die hun zangstem ondersteunt. 
Dreadnought gitaren staan bekend om hun diepe kast, wat gelijk merkbaar is aan de rijke bastonen.

Het bovenblad van de body is gemaakt van twee delen massief sparren die met elkaar zijn verlijmd. Sparren hout (Spruce), komt voornamelijk uit Canada en is herkenbaar aan de iets donkerdere kleur en is iets zwaarder dan Engelmann Spruce. De fijnheid van de nerf heeft invloed op de klank. Het beste sparren groeit in koudere streken en berggebieden waar de boom langzaam en met dunne jaarringen kan groeien. Het is sterkte en elasticiteit en deze combinatie vertaalt zich in een breed dynamisch bereik en scherpe articulatie waardoor het geschikt is voor alles van agressieve tokkelen tot flatpicking fingerpicking. Voor de zij- en achterkant van de kast worden gelamineerde houtdelen gebruikt, dit is minder dynamisch en krachtig dan massieve delen. Een voordeel is dat het minder gevoelig voor temperatuur en vochtwisselingen. Mahonie vertegenwoordigd de midrange frequenties met als resultaat een warme sustainvolle klank. 

Hij bestaat uit drie delen mahonie: kop, middenstuk en hak. Dit geeft de gitaar stabiliteit en verkleint de kans op tordatie. Natuurlijk is er een verstelbare halspen in verwerkt. De verbinding met de body is een zogeheten dovetail neck joint, een schuin lopende verbinding en een versteviging in de klankkast. Deze delen zijn met elkaar verlijmd.
Toets
Hiervoor is Ovangkol gebruikt. Veel gitaren hebben een palissander toets, ovangkol is de Afrikaanse variant. Het laat de gitaar in het middengebied iets warmer klinken, ook wordt dit hardhout gebruikt voor de brug.
