Description

A refined Japanese calligraphy set (Suzuribako) featuring a distinctive half-moon shape, crafted using traditional lacquer and Maki-e techniques.

The set is decorated with an elegant chrysanthemum (Kiku) motif. The interior and tray display beautiful Nashiji (“pear-skin lacquer”), a traditional technique in which fine gold flakes are dispersed within the lacquer to create a deep, softly shimmering surface.

The exterior lid features dynamic wave-like patterns executed in gold and silver Maki-e, creating a striking contrast with the natural wood grain finish of the upper surface.

This comprehensive writing set includes:

• Half-moon lacquer tray/box (lid and base)
• Inkstone (Suzuri)
• Ink stick (Sumi)
• Chrysanthemum-shaped bronze/brass water dropper
• Metal paperweight (Bunchin)

The chrysanthemum is an important symbol in Japanese culture and is associated with the Imperial family, as well as longevity and rejuvenation, adding cultural significance to this elegant piece.
