OTTIMA RACCOLTA CINQUECENTESCA DI 2 TESTI FONDAMENTALI DELL’ OPERA DI LIPSIO.

Il “De amphitheatro” e’ diviso in 2 parti, con 2 frontespizi autonomi in paginazione continua,
4 tavole piu’ volte ripiegate f.t. e 4 tavole a piena pagina n.t., tra cui sezioni del Colosseo ricostruito, con l’ arena piena di gladiatori in azione.
La prima parte e’ dedicata al Colosseo, mentre la seconda descrive gli anfiteatri di Verona, Pola (Croazia), Nimes e Doue’-la-Fontaine

Nel “Saturnalium”, opera affascinante dedicata alle antichità romane, il testo e’ incentrato soprattutto sulla figura del gladiatore, di cui spiccano le 4 splendide grandi tavole incise, piu’ volte ripiegate, oltre a 12 tavole ripiegate piu’ piccole.
I Saturnali erano grandi feste romane durante il solstizio d’ inverno (dal 17 al 24 dicembre, poi il 25); le celebrazioni del dio Saturno erano accompagnate da grandi e sfrenate feste popolari, ma anche da spettacoli, in particolare di gladiatori.

Buona legatura settecentesca in mezza pelle e piatti rigidi marmorizzati con antica etichetta cartacea al piatto anteriore recante date e luoghi di stampa.
Dorso a 6 nervi, con tassello in marocchino rosso, con autore e titoli dorati.
Abrasioni e lievi rotture alla cerniera anteriore, oltre a piccola mancanza alla cuffia superiore.

Carte in prevalenza molto ben conservate, compresi i 3 frontespizi e tutte le tavole.
Lievi ininfluenti bruniture, con lievissimo foxing.

Buona copia, completa di tutte le tavole ed illustrazioni delle due opere.
