This set of 1997 Mercurey represents a classic Negociant-bottled offering by A. Demelo, a merchant-bottler based in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Mercurey is the largest communal appellation in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise, renowned for producing wines that provide a robust, earthier alternative to the Côte d’Or. The bottles appear to be in excellent condition for their age, featuring top-shoulder to neck fill levels and excellent labels with only minor superficial scuffing consistent with careful cellar storage. The gold capsules are excellent and seated firmly, with no signs of protrusion or leakage. 1997 was a ripe, accessible vintage for Burgundy white wines. Given that white Mercurey is typically made from Chardonnay.
