Giulia Couzzi

Jan van Eyk was een Nederlandse kunstenaar, geboren in Helmond in 1927. Hij begon als tekenaar en ontwikkelde zich via abstract werk naar meer figuratieve schilderkunst. Zijn thema’s varieerden van religieuze motieven tot menselijke relaties zoals moeder-en-kind.

Van Eyk werkte vaak in reeksen en gebruikte diverse technieken, waaronder olieverf, houtskool en inkt. Zijn stijl combineerde expressionisme, abstractie en figuratie. Hij was actief in Noord-Brabant en zijn werk is opgenomen in collecties van o.a. Museum Helmond en het Van Abbemuseum. Hij wordt gezien als een belangrijk vertegenwoordiger van de naoorlogse kunst in Zuid-Nederland.

In dit werk laat Van Eyk zijn kenmerkende expressieve kracht zien. Twee figuren — half zichtbaar, half vervagend — lijken te verschijnen uit een donkere, aardse achtergrond. De penseelvoering is grof, met dikke, ruwe lagen verf die een tastbare spanning oproepen. De kleuren zijn gedempt: diepe bruinen, okers en grijzen domineren, wat het schilderij een melancholische en bezinnende sfeer geeft.

Dit kunstwerk is afkomstig uit de collectie van het Eindhoven Museum. In het kader van de transitie naar Museumpark Vonk worden geselecteerde werken afgestoten, zodat het museum zich volledig kan richten op de geschiedenis en identiteit van Eindhoven.

Bezichtiging is uiteraard mogelijk. Daarnaast beschikken wij over onze eigen in-house lijstenmakerij, die zijn 85e jubileumjaar viert. Verder maken wij gebruik van restauratoren uit de brancheorganisatie: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. Mocht u hiervan gebruiken willen maken dan horen wij dit uiteraard graag.
