Sull'artista: André Kauffer (1893-1977)
André Kauffer è un pittore francese nato a Nancy nel 1893, proveniente da una famiglia di orefici legata all'École de Nancy. Formatosi presso i Beaux-Arts di Nancy, abbandonò l'oreficeria dopo la Prima Guerra Mondiale per dedicarsi alla pittura di paesaggi.
La sua opera è caratterizzata da una predilezione per le montagne d'Europa: Alpi francesi, Vosgi,
Tirolo austriaco, ma anche Bretagna e
Mediterraneo. Dipinge principalmente con spatola/cucchiaio, usando una materia generosa e colori intensi.
Molto apprezzato dagli appassionati di paesaggi regionali, ha esposto regolarmente a Nancy e nell'est della Francia. Le sue opere sono oggi ricercate per la loro forza plastica e il loro carattere decorativo.
