Zhu Chen

A beautifully crafted antique coal iron, made of cast brass with a turned wooden handle ( probably mahogany). This functional household tool was used for ironing clothes by placing hot coals inside the body.
The brass base would be preferable to cast iron by living no marks on clothes.

The iron features a ventilated base with decorative cut-outs, allowing airflow to keep the coals hot, and a hinged top with a locking clasp for practical use.

Antique brass coal iron made in Netherlands in 1890-1900 by an unknown blacksmith.
Important for collectors is a number 4 cast on the lid, that indicates that this is an authentic object.

The iron is still in a very good condition, no restoration, no dents.  All elements are opening and closing without problem.
Wooden handle, probably made from the mahogany wood is still completely intact.

These irons are somewhat more luxurious than the standard Victorian cast irons commonly seen and are attractive objects for collectors and decoration.
