Covered sanctus bell with 4 bells

 19th century, The Netherlands

The Sanctus bell (meaning Holy) was used for announcing the singing of the Sanctus, at the end of the mass,
and the elevation of the host. 3 x, the bell also says 3 x Sanctus


Sanctus bell or altar bell, in the Netherlands it was common to cover the bells with a sheath. This served as sound box to make the bells sound even louder.
This was especially useful in large churches.

The Sanctus bell is made of copper and bronze, consists of 4 bells with original clappers, the bell has a triangle shape with 3 x Sanctus inscription.

Sizes 28 x 28 x 28 cm, weight 3000 grams

in very good used and original condition, with the exception of 1 new nut, see picture 10
