Che importanza ha il segno per il disegno? Con questo interrogativo Bruno Munari apre Prima del disegno, edizione appartenente alla collana Block Notes, creata da Munari per Corraini nel 1992: una libera collezione di progetti dai risvolti creativi. Una raccolta di idee ed esempi dell’operare artistico come input per il “gioco dell’intelletto” di tutti, riconoscibile nella veste grafica per le sue copertine grigie, il formato tascabile e i fori posti in copertina, che spingono il lettore a “curiosare dentro” il libro.
In questo volume, il segno diventa la cifra della sperimentazione più libera, accompagnato da didascalie sui generis in italiano, inglese francese e tedesco.
Le invenzioni segniche della matita lasciata quasi libera sulla carta fanno di questo libro un album di famiglia; una raccolta di tutti i ritratti di quel segno a china che su carta diventa l'inizio di un prato, un insetto velenoso, una trottola che gira stando ferma.
