La boite à mouche: écrin du XVIIIème siècle
Les mouches sont des points noirs en taffetas gommé ou en velours que les femmes s'appliquaient sur le visage, pour rehausser la blancheur de leur teint et donner du piquant à leur physionomie. Chez les Perses et chez les Arabes, les taches noires sur la peau sont considérées comme une beauté; ces peuples furent des premiers à se mettre des mouches. Si l'usage des mouches est déjà connu au XVIIème siècle en France, c'est au XVIIIème siècle cependant qu'elles vont devenir les symboles de la parure et de la féminité.
