This exquisite ceramic piece is a masterpiece of contemporary Bizen-yaki, handcrafted by the celebrated artist Kosuke Kaneshige (b. 1943). While traditionally shaped as a tea cup , this work is a profound example of "sculptural ceramics," representing the bridge between ancient Japanese tradition and modern fine art.

About the Artist: A Legacy of Excellence
Kosuke Kaneshige is the third son of Toyo Kaneshige, the legendary "Living National Treasure" who revived the art of Bizen. Kosuke is a highly distinguished figure in Japanese ceramics, designated as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture in 2012.

The Fusion of Sculpture and Earth:
Unlike traditional potters, Kosuke completed his Master’s in Sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts (1970). This academic background is evident in the dynamic, tectonic energy of this piece. He does not merely form clay; he "sculpts" it, using bold spatula marks (hera-ato) to create a 3D form that commands presence as an art object.

Technical Recognition & Awards:

2012: Designated Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture.

1994: Japan Pottery Association Award (The most prestigious award in Japanese ceramics).

1988: Grand Prize at "Forms of Tea Ceremony," Tanabe Art Museum.

Public Collections: His works are exhibited in major institutions, including the Suntory Museum of Art and the Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art.

Natural Kiln Transformations (Yo-hen):
This piece features a stunning "Goma" (natural ash glaze) and "Kashira" effects, achieved through high-temperature firing for several days without any artificial glazes. The result is a rugged, stone-like texture that reflects the primeval beauty of the earth.
