Masque  Dan / Guere - Côte d'Ivoire
Chez les Dan, les masques sont les esprits de la brousse et non leurs représentants.

Très nombreux dans leur diversité, les masques Dan sont nommés Guégo, "tête de masque".
Le terme général Glé (Gleu dans le sud-ouest) désignant le personnage entier.
Glé incarne la force spirituelle qui habite dans la forêt et souhaite participer à la vie du village.

Le porteur du masque et son propriétaire jouissent d'un statut très élevé dans la hiérarchie du village.
Leur apparition, lors de fêtes masquées, résoud les conflits qui n'auraient pu être réglés par le chef du village.
Celui qui ne respecte pas les masques commet un crime grave contre sa société et sa religion.

Les masques Dan sont très hiérarchisés lors des cérémonies : certains apparaissent seulement pour divertir le public, d'autres sont muets ou bien dotés de parole.
La majorité parle et chante, leur voix pouvant se manifester par de la musique
