Nata nel 1931 a Budapest (Ungheria), Agnes Denes è cresciuta in Svezia e ha studiato negli Stati Uniti. Dall'inizio della sua carriera espositiva negli anni '60, ha partecipato a più di 450 mostre in gallerie e musei di tutto il mondo.
Una figura primaria tra gli artisti concettuali emersi negli anni '60 e '70, Agnes Denes è conosciuta a livello internazionale per le opere create con un'ampia gamma di mezzi. Pioniera di diversi movimenti artistici, è difficile da classificare. Investigando la scienza, la filosofia, la linguistica, la psicologia, la poesia, la storia e la musica, la pratica artistica di Denes si distingue in termini di estetica e coinvolgimento con le idee socio-politiche.
