【Product details】

This hand-carved wooden Noh mask depicts Ko-Omote, representing a young woman aged 16 to 17 years in Noh theatre. The mask is celebrated for its ambiguous expression that can seem joyful or melancholic depending on lighting and movement, offering performers a rich expressive range. The ohaguro (blackened teeth) signify the character’s coming of age into adulthood.

The surface is finished with gofun, a traditional Japanese white pigment made from finely ground oyster shells, giving it a smooth, pale complexion typical of this mask type.

There is discolouration, some blemishes, and a small chip on the interior. Please refer to the photos for a clear understanding of its condition.
