Monumentaal Chinees brons van een Toornige Godheid (Mahakala)

De Spirituele Beschermer
Dit indrukwekkende beeld toont een van de belangrijkste beschermers van de boeddhistische leer (Dharma). De godheid is afgebeeld in zijn toornige manifestatie, bedoeld om obstakels en negatieve energieën te vernietigen. Met zijn vlammende aureool (prabha), de kroon van schedels en zijn woeste gelaatstrekken belichaamt dit stuk de dynamische kracht van transformatie.

Symboliek en Attributen
• Houding: De godheid staat in een krachtige pose op een dubbele lotusbasis, symbool voor spirituele zuiverheid te midden van de wereldse chaos.
• Vlammenkrans: Het gedetailleerd uitgewerkte aureool achter de godheid stelt de vlammen van pure wijsheid voor die onwetendheid verteren.
• Patina: Het beeld vertoont een prachtig, doorleefd patina met resten van vergulding en ritueel pigment (rood), wat wijst op langdurig gebruik in een tempel- of huisaltaar-setting.
