„Akuaba“-pop van de Ashanti uit Ghana
Het poppenhoofd is heel fijn uit hout gesneden, zwart met lakverf beschilderd en op het hoofd, de nek en de sokkel versierd met veelkleurige, zeer fijne glasparelstrengjes. Mooie gebruikspatina - slijtage van de verf op de verheven delen.
Dergelijke poppen dienden binnen de traditionele Ashanti-cultuur als vruchtbaarheids- en schoonheidsymbolen. Ze waren een uitdrukking van de hoop op gezonde, mooie kinderen en werden door vrouwen op de rug gedragen en ritueel verzorgd.

Ik bied tribale kunst aan uit heel Afrika. Het maakt deel uit van mijn privécollectie. De verzameling is begonnen in 1980 en bestaat ondertussen uit heel veel objecten. Objecten die zelf tijdens werk in Afrika zijn gekocht maar ook verzamelt bij tropenartsen, grote verzamelaars, galerieën in Brussel en Parijs en veilinghuizen in Europa. Aangezien ik kleiner wil gaan wonen bied ik mijn verzameling aan andere liefhebbers aan.
