Une exceptionnelle collection française en vente :

La collection originelle a été constituée par un couple de Français du milieu des affaires d'origine bordelaise : Madame Cheyssial et Monsieur Azzi, PDG de Prix Import, société spécialisée dans la grande distribution qu'il a fondée au Gabon en 1992 et qui n'a eu de cesse de croître jusqu'à devenir la plus grande enseigne de supermarchés du Gabon, associée au groupe Carrefour.

Rapidement sensibles aux qualités des arts d'Afrique, Madame et Monsieur Cheyssial-Azzi ont constitué ce remarquable ensemble faisant montre d'une belle diversité.
En effet, les objets sont variés d'un point de vue formel et ethnique.
Ainsi se mélangent masques grands et petits, statues, récipients, poupées, fétiches, bronzes, instruments de musiques, objets usuels et même des costumes de danse en fibres végétales ainsi qu'un rare sous-ensemble de pipes camerounaises. Un véritable petit musée privé somme toute.

Cette diversité se marque également en ce qui concerne la provenance : l'aire géographique représentée est très étendue puisqu'on retrouve des objets dont l'origine s'étire depuis l'Afrique de l'Ouest à l'Angola en passant par le Gabon, le cœur du Congo, la Côte d'Ivoire et bien d'autres.

Le couple de collectionneurs méticuleux a de plus abattu un travail colossal de documentation concernant la majorité des objets réunis : d'imposants classeurs contiennent photographies, cartes géographiques, missives, informations, bibliographies, études comparatives de formes et de marché, échange avec l'étude Darmancier à Bourges,... laissant une trace à l'épreuve du temps, et une mine d'or pour les passionnés qui acquerront ces objets au travers des enchères.

La collection a finalement été transmise il y a plus d’une décennie à un médecin de la région bordelaise qui l’a complétée selon sa sensibilité, ce qui fait de cet ensemble une riche carte postale de tout ce que l’art africain peut offrir en termes de formes.
