An oil on canvas by Sebastian Gögel with museum exhibition history. 

The work by the German painter Sebastian Gögel shows horror-like scenes with a healthy dose of humour. His performances are both witty and cryptic without becoming anecdotal. His work is also characterised by a society critical attitude.

His work is linked to German art history and in particular to the expressionist tradition. There is a kinship with my peers like Jonathan Meese, but the work also relates to artists such as Otto Dix and Georg Grosz.

Dutch broadcasting organisation VPRO made a 45-minute documentary about Sebastian Gögel in 2011; Sarah's Barbarians. Can be seen on the internet via NPO Start.

This work was hung at the GEM in The Hague in 2008.
