These are articulated storyteller puppets used in the Santal festival & in wedding celebrations. Santal ethnographic group (Bihar & N. India).
These were displayed on a diorama used for the performance of itinerant storytellers to illustrate folk tales. Many of these were distributed by traders in Kathmandu along with other Santhal material culture such as dodro banam (bowed musical instruments), flutes, palkee panels (marital litter) and these storyteller puppets during the late 20th c.

This row represents ten female ancestors, dancing.
