The Hague photographer and filmmaker Vojta Dukat (Brno, Moravia, 1947) shows photos and films in the Gemeentemuseum under the title A Slice of Time. The exhibition is part of the Ouborg Prize 2001 that the artist has been awarded by Stroom hcbk. This city prize for visual art in The Hague also includes a sum of money and a publication.
As a photographer and film maker, Vojta Dukat has developed an oeuvre that shows no trace of fashion. This has to do with his subjects: Dukat is not interested in political or sensational images, but rather observes the daily actions of ordinary people in their own environment. This is often everyday life in locations where the 21st-century Western way of life has not yet penetrated: a village in Portugal, in Ukraine or in its native country. His photos and films are mostly black and white and exude an intimate and romantic atmosphere.
