Type of jewel: Vintage antique enameled gold and silver pendant with diamonds and rubies

Condition: In a good state, particularly considering the jewel's age.

Material: 14K yellow gold and silver (touchstone tested)

Technique: Enamelling is an old and widely-adopted technology. The ancient Egyptians applied enamels to pottery and stone objects. Enamel is the colorful result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal, glass or ceramic.

Extra information: The back still bears traces of its former function as a brooch, although it can now only be worn as a pendant. However, for an experienced goldsmith, reinstating a brooch fitting would pose no difficulty.

Diamond(s): 65 senaille and rose cuts. A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets.

- We understand that private buyers may expect diamond weights to be provided, but in the case of rose-cut or senaille diamonds, this is simply not standard practice among industry professionals specialising in antique and vintage jewellery. Unlike brilliant-cut diamonds, where weight correlates with diameter, rose cuts vary in thickness, making weight estimation impossible once set. Providing such figures could lead to unnecessary debates, as rose-cut diamonds were traditionally valued for their visual effect rather than intrinsic worth. Even major auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s rarely list their weight, except for exceptionally large stones, where diameter is often provided instead.

- All diamonds, regardless of their size or shape, in our vintage and antique jewellery are verified as 100% natural by the IJGC laboratory.

- We do not sell lab-grown (synthetic) diamonds.

Precious stone(s): Five natural rubies with an estimated weight of ± 0.80ct.

- It is common practice to treat gemstones to enhance their clarity or colour. This item has not been tested for such treatments.



- All gemstone weights are approximate, as the stones are not removed from their settings to preserve the integrity of the piece.

Birth and month stones: Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for April and Ruby is the birthstone (or month stone) for July.

Hallmarks: The Dutch control mark for 14K gold jewelry that was brought to the essay office in finished condition (such as antique jewelry). This hallmark was in use since 1955.
