- Esta suntuosa naturaleza muerta mallorquina de en torno a 1800, es un testimonio pictórico de cómo las convenciones de la vanitas barroca y el dramatismo efectista del claroscuro persistieron, anclados al género del bodegón durante siglos después de su apogeo. En la obra , la disposición abundante y desbordante de frutas maduras —sandías, uvas, naranjas y ciruelas— sobre un fondo oscuro e indefinido, opera bajo la sombra de la caducidad. El contraste lumínico, con una luz dramática que cae sobre las superficies brillantes de las uvas y la pulpa carmesí de la sandía, no solo realza la calidad táctil y el naturalismo de los objetos, sino que también subraya la fugacidad de su perfección. Este juego de luces y sombras, de opulencia y oscuridad, hereda directamente la lección moralista de la vanitas, recordando al espectador que la belleza y la riqueza terrenal son tan transitorias como la fruta a punto de descomponerse.

A pesar de su evidente deuda con el legado de los grandes maestros holandeses y españoles del siglo XVII, la obra presenta sutiles convenciones del estilo de la pintura mallorquina. La composición, aunque abarrotada, mantiene una disposición regional que celebra la generosidad de la tierra insular, destacando los productos locales. El naturalismo aquí es vívido, pero quizás menos áspero o austero que el de tierra firme, inclinándose por una riqueza cromática más cálida y accesible. La pintura, ejecutada con una mano experta y atenta a las texturas (desde la tersura del cobre de la jarra hasta la rugosidad de la corteza de la sandía), demuestra la persistencia del bodegón como un género serio y altamente valorado, incluso cuando la sensibilidad artística general se movía hacia el Neoclasicismo, manteniendo el impacto emocional y la profundidad conceptual del legado barroco en el Mediterráneo.
