Mammal - Fossil mandible bone

Up for sale is a lower mandible/jaw of prehistoric rhinoceros Coelodonta antiquitatis (herbivorous mammal) from late Pleistocene of Songhua river, Heilongjiang province, NE China! The Pleistocene woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis) was one of the most iconic megafaunal species inhabiting the cold, open landscapes of Eurasia during the last Ice Age. In northeast China—particularly in regions such as Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Jilin—its fossils provide important evidence of how large mammals adapted to the harsh, steppe-tundra environments that dominated the area during glacial periods. Characterized by its thick fur, massive curved horn, and robust body designed to withstand frigid climates, the woolly rhino played a significant role in Ice Age ecosystems as a large grazing herbivore. Discoveries of well-preserved bones, horns, and occasionally soft-tissue impressions in the permafrost-influenced soils of northeast China have helped researchers reconstruct not only its appearance and behavior but also the environmental conditions of the Late Pleistocene. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of megafaunal evolution, ecological dynamics, and the factors that led to the species’ eventual extinction near the end of the Pleistocene. —————————— The size measurements of this item is around 49 x 15 x5.5 cm. The item is estimated around 3 kg, with no repairs and restorations. For shipping, the Chunghwa post (the official post of Taiwan) will be used to carry the item worldwide. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions in mind!
