Nobuyoshi Araki - Nobuyoshi Araki 2-book set - 1995

This is a photo book by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's most renowned photographers. It is titled Okinawa Passion (with obi). Influenced by his father, a clog craftsman and amateur photographer, Araki began taking photographs. After graduating from Chiba University's Department of Photography and Printing Engineering, he joined Dentsu. While in school, he took advertising photographs and experimented with new forms of photographic art using the company's equipment. Since the 1970s, he has released sensational works, such as Ah, Japan and Sentimental Journey, which are still talked about today. His exceptional works, including provocative nudes and heartwarming snapshots, have captivated photography fans worldwide. This book, published in 1995, is a collection of his works, following The Labyrinth of Love and Kyoto White Heat, published the following year, in 1996. It mentions a visit to Okinawa after more than 20 years, which may have been since the photography for Sentimental Journey Okinawa 2, published in 1971. However, the book is composed of photographs taken during two visits to Okinawa in October and November of 1993. He wandered through streets and alleys, taking snapshots of women and couples he encountered. The book's design is meticulous; only the photographs of Noe, the woman he had a crush on, are printed on paper. The book comes with a dust jacket Photographer Nobuyoshi Araki has been active since the 1960s, and continues to exhibit his work even now, at over 77 years old. This book, "The Diary of a Photo-Mad Old Man: Deathday," is part of Araki's well-known photobook series, and "Araki photographs the anniversary of death in Japan (August 15th)" (from the publisher). The photos included are dated "'15 8 15" (there are also photos with the date 8 16), and were intentionally taken to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war (although given the content, it's questionable whether the photos were actually taken in one day...). Published in the same year, "Photo-Mad Old Man Diary: Yoko's Death Anniversary" only contained photos from "'15 1 27," so it has a sequel-like concept, but Araki's past photobooks include "After the War" (1993), for which he began shooting on August 16th, and "This Year," published in 2005, the 60th anniversary of the end of the war, which ended in front of the Nijubashi Bridge at the Imperial Palace on August 15th, demonstrating the strength of his feelings about the end of the war. The book features a series of snapshots featuring Araki's signature motifs, such as flowers, dolls, workplaces, the sky, food, and television copies, as well as images of famous people such as Shigesato Itoi, Kanako Higuchi, Kiko Mizuhara, and Daido Moriyama.
