Rajput Procession on Antique Jaipur Court Fee Paper (Four Annas), c. 1898/99
Description (short):
Vibrant Rajasthani miniature depicting a ceremonial procession with an elephant and attendants, painted on an original Jaipur Government court-fee document (“Four Annas”). The blue fiscal seal includes the Samvat date 1955 (c. 1898/1899 CE), with additional handwritten annotations in Urdu/Persian. A striking crossover between colonial-era bureaucracy and traditional Indian miniature painting.
Technique / materials: gouache / watercolour & ink on antique paper (court fee stamp paper).
Condition: aged paper with stains/toning; central punch hole within the seal; minor wear consistent with age.
Origin: Jaipur (Rajasthan), India.
Period: paper dated c. 1898/99; painting possibly later (traditional style).
