Galena is a dark gray mineral belonging to the sulfides category. The name derives from Galen, a physician of ancient Greece. Due to its high silver content, it was used during the Middle Ages to make coins. Today, however, it is used in lead extraction.
Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, and throughout history, it has been used by many peoples and cultures to create artistic objects. Its impurities give it a wide variety of colors, a characteristic that, in medieval times, earned it the name 'flower of stone.' This mineral is famous for the effect called fluorescence, which bears its name. Some of its varieties, in fact, glow under UV light.
