An octagonal silver filigree box, likely Spanish (Madrid) crafted in the first half of the 20th century, in .925 silver with vermeil interior, 9 × 9 × 6 cm, 125 g, in very good used condition with intact filigree.
Description from the seller
Octagonal silver filigree box – Spanish artisanal work (possibly Madrid) – circa the first half of the 20th century
Weight: 125 g
Dimensions: 9 × 9 × 6 cm
Material: Silver (tested with acid), with a slightly gold-toned interior (vermeil).
Technique: Hand filigree, fine piercing
Description
Exceptional octagonal box made of silver filigree, an outstanding example of the Spanish jewelry tradition. The piece stands out for the precision of the craftsmanship, typical of workshops specialized in active filigree in Spain during the first half of the 20th century.
Each panel features stylized floral motifs, crafted with twisted silver threads and skillfully soldered. The lid displays a radial design in the shape of a sunflower, full of dynamism and balance, topped with a knob equally decorated in filigree.
The interior is crafted with the same delicacy, with vermeil details that accentuate the visual richness of the set.
The small star seal present on the piece matches marks occasionally used by Spanish workshops in the period, especially within the circle of Madrid goldsmiths who carried out filigree work for export and luxury decorative items.
Spanish work, probably originating from Madrid, a city known for its fine goldsmithing and filigree workshops during the 20th century.
Very good condition, with natural patina characteristic of age. The filigree is intact, with no breaks or losses. The clasp functions properly.
