Medical optical instrument - 1900-2000 - United Kingdom - Obrig Laboratories

A very early set of Optician's demonstration contact lenses dating from the 1950's. Whilst the idea of contact lenses goes as far back as Leonardo da Vinci who had an idea as to how contact lenses may work, these would have been amongst the earliest ever commercially available, with the wider applications of plastics being explored. This is a full set supplied in the makers original case. Obrig Laboratories was a contact lens company based at 95 Park Lane, London W1. The company was associated with the contact lens pioneer Theodore Obrig, who retired as president in 1951. The case measures 17.5 x 10 x 2.5cm.
