Developed as the successor to the EF17-35mm F2.8L USM (released in 1995). In addition to offering higher image quality than its predecessor, the new lens has a wider focal length of 16mm on the wide-angle side, enabling ultra-wide-angle photography even with digital AF SLR cameras, which have a smaller image size than 35mm film cameras. The newly adopted dustproof and drip-proof construction ensures high reliability even under the harsh shooting conditions used by professionals.
