Miss Prue – Rock’n’Rebel by Teejo, an inkjet print on prestige canvas (80 × 60 cm), in a limited edition 05/10, produced in France in 2020 or later, hand-signed, in excellent condition, shipped directly from the artist.
Description from the seller
This contemporary work by Teejo revisits the portrait of Frances Abington as Miss Prue, created in 1771 by Joshua Reynolds. Originally, this painting depicted the beloved actress Frances Abington in the role of Miss Prue, an ingénue and comic heroine from William Congreve's play Love for Love (1695). Once considered an exhibition portrait, it is in fact a private commission imbued with gentle provocation, where the actress poses in an attitude that is both intimate and unsettling for the time.
In this daring reinterpretation, Teejo injects a dose of modernity and rebellion. Miss Prue becomes a rock icon: leather jacket, Pink Floyd T-shirt, confident tattoos, bright lipstick, and a retro hairstyle twisted with a bandana. Even her little dog, a faithful companion, sports a pop style with violet glasses. This humorous and anachronistic subversion challenges classic codes to better connect the pictorial heritage with contemporary audiences.
Between homage and irreverence, Teejo transforms artistic heritage into a mirror of our era, with a touch of derision and a resolutely intergenerational aesthetic.

Teejo is a contemporary French artist. He modernizes old works by great masters, reinventing them with his own vision. He aims to reintroduce the world to ancient paintings by great masters, sometimes forgotten over time. His passion for classical art has helped him develop his talent. He also creates new original works that combine poetry, satire, prevention, and imagination, conveying many messages through his creations. These works are sold worldwide.
He creates his works using digital tools and enjoys mixing and revisiting techniques to achieve the best results. He is also the designer of 'dual perceptuality,' a graphic innovation filed with the National Institute of Industrial Property, which allows multiple images to be seen in a single artwork through colored glasses.
