Olivetti Studio 42 portable typewriter designed by Ottavio Luzzati with Figini and Pollini, in good used condition with minor age-related marks, made of metal, bakelite and leather, dimensions 34 × 26 × 9 cm, dating to 1949, Italy, in working order.
Description from the seller
The Olivetti Studio 42 is an emblem of an era: few other typewriters can boast such a fascinating history and such a highly distinctive design.
Designed in 1935 by Ottavio Luzzati, in collaboration with architects Figini and Pollini, Studio 42 introduced significant technological innovations in the field of mechanical writing, while simultaneously establishing itself as a work of art and an icon of style capable of enchanting anyone who had the privilege of using it.
The company's commitment to creating this typewriter was demonstrated through three years of meticulous design, culminating in a product destined to mark an era.
The Studio 42 is not just a typewriter: it is a declaration of proudly Italian style.
With an attractive exterior, it features a keyboard designed for efficiency. Characterized by the QWERTY layout, in line with Italian traditions, the Studio 42 keyboard includes keys for every need: from the spacebar to the return key.
Olivetti also offered the buyer the possibility of having up to 16 keyboards with different layouts and characters.
Our specimen presents a noteworthy peculiarity: the absence of the '1' key and the zero, replaced respectively by the lowercase letter 'l' and the uppercase 'O'. This somewhat curious choice for us was actually quite common in typewriters of the era, reflecting the needs and writing habits of contemporaries.
La Studio 42 is positioned midway between professional and portable machines, targeting that market segment which was emerging during those years of growing offices in the tertiary sector and freelance professionals.
The item we are offering has been used very little, to the point that it looks new in both the mechanisms and the bodywork.
The rear part, as can be seen from the photos, shows scratches consistent with rubbing from the briefcase.
Marked with serial number 650653, stamped on the underside of the frame, which dates to 1949 as the year of manufacture, is fully functional.
The portable suitcase is included and, while showing slight signs of wear consistent with age and responsible use, it is in excellent condition.
Collectors and enthusiasts will recognize its undeniable value, but we are confident that such a beautiful piece will capture the attention and taste of Italian design lovers.
We conclude with an invitation for you to look at the proposed photo album, which can persuade you to make a purchase more effectively than words.
We do not send outside the European Community.
For the islands, we reserve the right to request a settlement for any additional expenses charged by the shippers.
