Description from the seller
Johannes Taveraat (1809 - 1881) was a Dutch Romantic painter from Rotterdam. After training with the society ‘Hierdoor tot Hooger’ and Cornelis Bakker, he fully committed to art around his thirties. He lived and worked in Belgium and Germany, later returning to Rotterdam. Taveraat mainly created Romantic landscapes, hunting scenes, and oil sketches, often with dramatic light and shadow effects. His loose style diverged from conventions and was not always appreciated in his time, but his independence gave him artistic freedom. His work can now be found in museums such as the Rijksmuseum, the Dordrechts Museum, and the B.C. Koekkoek-Huis.
The work depicts a hunting still life with two dead birds. It has some paint damages here and there.
Dimensions with frame: 28 x 27 cm
Dimensions without frame: 20 x 19 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
