Description from the seller
Jacques Mels was also a self-taught artist. At a young age, he moved to Curacao, where he became a teacher at a craft school. Back in the Netherlands, he worked in Amsterdam, The Hague, and Limburg. His body of work includes many cityscapes, still lifes, and portraits, which he composed in a very distinctive, almost expressionist style. Mels painted many landscapes of Brabant and South Limburg, where cloud-filled skies play an important role. Especially with watercolor techniques, he created beautiful landscapes, characterized by the use of a lot of black and unusual colors that add extra drama.
Dimensions of work with frame: 70 x 85 cm.
Dimensions of the work without frame: 57 x 72 cm.
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
