Description from the seller
Johan Lennarts (1932–1991) was a versatile Dutch artist, poet, and thinker from Eindhoven. He was active from the 1950s onwards and associated with the New Figuration movement. Lennarts combined painting with language, performance, and social critique, consciously blurring the lines between image and poetry. As co-founder of De Groep Atonaal, he opposed the commercialization of art. His work is expressive, experimental, and often ironic. Lennarts's oeuvre is included in museum collections such as the Van Abbemuseum, and he is considered an important, idiosyncratic voice in post-war Dutch art.
