Art Nouveau Hand Mirror with Commedia dell’Arte Figures – ca. 1900–1920 – Cast Gilded Bronze
Beautiful and unusual Art Nouveau hand mirror featuring Harlequin / Pierrot-style figures from the Commedia dell’Arte. The frame is cast bronze and richly decorated with:
• A full-length Harlequin forming the handle
• A cherub / putto supporting the lower frame
• A crescent moon with expressive face on the right side
• Decorative floral motifs surrounding the mirror border
These theatrical and celestial motifs are typical of late 19th to early 20th-century French and German decorative metalwork, often sold as boudoir or vanity objects.
Details
• Period: circa 1900–1920 (Art Nouveau)
• Material: cast gilded bronze
• Backplate: secured with 4 screws, likely original
• Mirror: original beveled glass with age-related wear and scratches
• Condition: Good antique condition. Gilt metal with natural patina and small signs of age. Glass shows surface scratches consistent with use.
