Superb Ancient Roman pottery, Terra sigillata from the 3rd - 1st century AD.
Terra sigillata as an archaeological term refers chiefly to a specific type of plain and decorated tableware made in Italy and in Gaul (France and the Rhineland) during the Roman Empire. These vessels have glossy surface slips ranging from a soft lustre to a brilliant glaze-like shine, in a characteristic colour range from pale orange to bright red.
Acquired from a Spanish private collection, F.C.B in the 80's.
