Vatican. Medal Napoleon I Coronation Medal – Rare Antique Tin Cast c.1880–1900 – 42mm (No reserve price)

Napoleon I Coronation Medal – Rare Antique Tin Cast c.1880–1900 – 42mm Napoleon I – Coronation of 1804 Rare antique tin cast medal Diameter: 42 mm Late 19th to early 20th century Unsigned – Unofficial production This is a rare antique cast medal depicting the famous Coronation of Napoleon I in 1804. Unlike the more common bronze reproductions, this example is made in tin/pewter, a fragile material used in France and Italy during the late 19th century for small–series casts, museum copies and academic reproductions. Each tin cast is unique, showing differences in relief, surface texture and border, making these pieces highly collectible historical curiosities. This example was almost certainly produced c.1880–1900, based on metal composition, patina and casting technique. ⸻ Features • Subject: Coronation of Napoleon I (1804) • Material: Tin / pewter alloy • Diameter: 42 mm • Technique: Handmade cast, not struck • Period: Late 19th – early 20th century • Unique surface characteristics due to the traditional mould process • Unofficial reproduction of an Imperial medal, now itself an antique ⸻ Condition Worn cast details and surface porosity typical of antique tin medals. Edge irregularities from original moulding. Despite wear, the figures remain identifiable and the medal preserves its historical character. ⸻ Rarity Tin casts of Napoleonic medals survive far less frequently than bronze examples. Due to the softness and fragility of the metal, most have been melted or damaged over time. This makes surviving pieces scarce and desirable, especially for collectors of early reproductions and Napoleonic memorabilia.
