Icono ortodoxo ruso del tipo “Nacimiento de la Virgen María” (en eslavo: Рождество Пресвятой Богородицы – Rozhdestvó Presviatóy Bogoróditsy).

El tema representa el nacimiento de la Madre de Dios, a partir de la tradición recogida en el Protoevangelio de Santiago. Es una de las Doce Grandes Fiestas del calendario ortodoxo (celebrada el 8 de septiembre).

Descripción iconográfica

Santa Ana aparece reclinada en el lecho, tras el parto, envuelta en manto rojo (símbolo de vida y maternidad).

San Joaquín, su esposo, está sentado a la derecha, en actitud reflexiva y agradecida.

En el centro, una sirvienta ofrece cuidados tras el nacimiento.

En la parte inferior izquierda se ve la escena del baño de la Virgen niña, una iconografía tradicional que subraya la humanidad real de María.

En los márgenes laterales aparecen santos o profetas en pequeño formato, actuando como testigos espirituales del acontecimiento.

La arquitectura esquemática del fondo sitúa la escena en un espacio doméstico, típico de los iconos narrativos rusos.

Estilo y datación aproximada

Escuela rusa, probablemente entre los siglos XVII–XVIII.

Pintura al temple al huevo sobre tabla, con fondo oscuro envejecido.

Rasgos característicos: figuras estilizadas, colores terrosos (ocres, rojos profundos), halos dorados ya oscurecidos por el tiempo.

Significado teológico

Este icono no es solo narrativo:

Proclama que el nacimiento de María es el inicio de la salvación, pues de ella nacerá Cristo.

Subraya la intervención divina en la historia humana, incluso en lo cotidiano (un parto, una casa).

Por eso, en la liturgia se canta:
“Hoy se abren las puertas de la gracia: nace la Madre de Dios.”
Se entrega certificado de autenticidad, avalado por el Ministerio de Cultura de Estonia
