LATIN INSCRIPTION TRANSLATED:
*St. Salvius, Bishop of Amiens
"Formerly a soldier from Amiens, he was chosen as abbot. After a short time, he was taken by fever. Because the Church needed his service, he was commanded by divine will to return to life and be brought to the episcopal throne.
As the bell rang out loudly, by the divine judgment of the heavenly ones, Salvius became the bishop of the city. As with diseases, so also with fire, only through the protection of the stars could he prevail."

Though unsigned, its refined execution and stylistic features are characteristic of the Baroque period, suggesting it was likely commissioned for a church or private chapel. An exceptional and imposing devotional piece for discerning collectors and institutions.
