This lot contains a complete set of 8 stamps of the Batumi Post, overprinted “BRITISH OCCUPATION” during the British military administration of Batumi after World War I. Historical background: After the collapse of the Russian Empire and the end of World War I, Batumi became a strategically important port under British military control. During the short occupation period (1919–1920), existing Batumi stamps were overprinted for postal use under British authority.
