Description from the seller

Set of 3 majolica panels from Castelli, Abruzzo, custom-made for Novartis Farma, Italy, circa from the 1960s to 1970s.

Description

Set consisting of three decorative panels in Italian majolica, hand-painted, attributed to the ceramic tradition of Castelli (Abruzzo), and datable to the second half of the twentieth century, approximately between the sixties and seventies. The works feature a classic style inspired by history, with polychrome decorations executed freehand, a cobalt blue background, and ornamental motifs typical of Castelli majolica of the period.

One of the panels has an inscription on the back indicating it was produced exclusively for Novartis Farma, confirming its nature as a corporate commission rather than serial or tourist production. The panels are set in original solid wood frames, with traditional joints and oxidized iron hardware; the patina of the wood and the oxidation of the metals are consistent with a mid-twentieth-century date.

The main panel integrates a clock; the currently installed mechanism is a modern quartz one and was added later, not original to the ceramic plate.

Object 1 – Panel with clock

Hand-painted maiolica panel with an original solid wood frame.

Total dimensions with frame: 46 × 32.5 cm.

Dimensions of the ceramic plate: 39 × 23.5 cm.

Total thickness: 4.5 cm.

Object 2 – 'The Pharmacist' Panel

Decorative ceramic panel painted by hand, coordinated in style, technique, and period with the main panel, set in an antique solid wood frame.

Total dimensions with frame: 40 × 26.5 cm.

Dimensions of the ceramic plate (without frame): 28 × 13.5 cm.

Item 3 – 'Cons di Cedro' Panel

Decorative panel in hand-painted majolica, belonging to the same set and custom-made production, with an original solid wood frame.

Total dimensions with frame: 33.5 × 33.5 cm.

Dimensions of the ceramic plate (without frame): 23.5 × 23.5 cm.

The set represents an interesting example of Italian artistic maiolica from the second half of the twentieth century, linked to the tradition of Castelli and to commissioned production for corporate and institutional contexts, with good decorative and collectible value.
