Roger Blondel (1912-1981) was from Rouen, where he also attended the École des Beaux-Arts. He specialized in creating statues and facades. In Rouen, for example, he worked on the facade and sculptures of the Palais de Justice. A document also mentions that he was affiliated with the École des Beaux-Arts de Rouen.
Besides stone, Roger Blondel also worked with wood and terracotta.
The guiding thread of his work is woman in all her facets.
His statues can be seen in various places across France, but his distinctive style of work with bold lines and voluptuous women has sometimes also faced resistance, as his work was considered offensive and too modern. For example, there is a well-known case where the mayor of a city ultimately decided to pay for the statue himself, after which it was still installed in the city.
